St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hamilton, has made application to bring two related refugee families of Oromo descent to Hamilton and to help them resettle here. These are UNHCR registered families who applied to come to Canada in 2015. They escaped persecution in Saudi Arabia, fled to Syria in 2005 and have been enduring the ravages of war since 2011. Like all refugees, they have experienced persecution and hardship including the death of husband and father, Abdulkadir Hussein.
This Benefit Concert will help St. John’s bring widow Zara Hussein, her son and his wife, and her other children (nine people in total) to Hamilton. The Hussein family has relatives in the Toronto area who are working hard to raise funds to bring them to Hamilton. Faith Lutheran Church, Brantford has also financially helped toward the fund. It is our hope that this concert will ensure all the funding needed to bring the Hussein family to Hamilton.
Thank you to all the artists and musicians who are giving of their time for this concert and to Grace Lutheran Church for hosting the Concert and Silent Auction/Wine & Cheese.
